Career with DAMU Logistics: teamwork and professional management
As part of a series of interviews with the heads of departments of the DAMU Logistics industrial and logistics center, Tatyana Babicheva,- Head of the business development department, has become the participant of our today's conversation.
The story of the Head of Business Development Department of DAMU Logistics -Tatiana Babicheva is a success story that demonstrates how to choose the path that will lead to professional success and further development from a variety of options. The «DAMU» first private industrial and logistics park of the Republic of Kazakhstan has become a reliable partner for leading companies in their segments. High international standards of work and corporate culture, high-quality service have become possible due to the professional management of business processes in DAMU Logistics. Tatyana Babicheva emphasizes that today business processes of “DAMU Logistics” are organized at a high level and there are improvement projects being implemented. Thus it was possible to achieve continuous development and increase the efficiency of the entire company.
Our interlocutor has studied at the College of Technology, the Academy of Civil Aviation, the Academy of Transport and Communications.
Tatyana's professional path began at the airport, in the cargo and passenger-and-freight terminal. Then she worked in warehouses in an international cosmetics company as a packer on an assembly line, from where, two years later, having become a senior specialist the girl went on maternity leave.
“From a two-year decree, I joined one of Almaty logistics parks as an assistant.” About a year later, she became a manager, she supervised the customer support. In 2015, she decided to work in transport logistics, where she worked for three years. “Then I was offered the position of Head of business development department in a company specializing in creation of logistics infrastructure,” recalls Tatyana Babicheva.
A great professional success for Tatyana was the decision to join the company - the operator of the network of industrial and logistics parks and the leading 3PL operator of the entire Central Asian region-“DAMU Logistics”, as the head of the business development department.
The management of the “DAMU Logistics” company from the very beginning of its activity, puts the professional development of employees, popularization of common values at the forefront. Understanding the full responsibility of working at a company of the “DAMU Logistics” level, the main goal for Tatyana Babicheva was to achieve a team result in the shortest possible time.
“Now the main task of the business development team is to focus on results. All our projects are aimed at increasing the company's budget. And we are achieving these goals. Today we are filling the empty areas as quickly as possible. Of the 300,000 sq. m2 of warehouses in the industrial center, we have reached 100% occupancy. Last year, on December the 10th, we let out for lease the last remaining site, and in just one month we increased the company's budget by 40%. In our department there are two directions "support" and "sales". It is important that we have joint reports, so everyone is aware of the work of colleagues. It is also effective in terms of employee interchangeability. Thus, the work never stops, even if someone goes on sick leave or vacation, ”: explains the head of the business development department.
The company is constantly working to improve the professional skills of its team. Especially for this, there is an internship program, and the most interested specialists are hired by the staff, with a guarantee of further career growth if the tasks are successfully completed: says Tatyana.
“For example: a new specialist showed her best after a month of her internship. Her path to DAMU Logistics started from the position of an assistant, three months later she became a sales manager, during that period she got an agreement signed and rented out the area. After completing the successful projects, the girl was appointed as a tenant support specialist. The younger generation is active and tech-savvy. The future belongs to advanced and versatile specialists. The "Internship" project of DAMU Logistics is a clear example of how big business helps future talented specialists build a successful career. In practice, we teach teamwork in such a responsible area,” says Tatyana Babicheva.
HEAD OF BUSINESS DEPARTMENT OF “DAMU Logistics”
The role of the head of the business development department includes organizing as much as possible, rallying the team and successfully communicating with potential partners. There are also many nuances in cooperation with the tenants of the “DAMU Logistics” industrial and logistics center, because almost all of them are representatives of various industries: these are pharmaceutical companies, household appliance companies, in other words, there is no specific segment.
“The specifics of my work is to be able to negotiate with all partners. This means working only for each of them, while defending the interests of the company. All issues can be resolved by negotiation. I try to find a compromise in any situation with the maximum benefit for all parties. I also apply these skills in family life,” says our interviewee.
The 2020 pandemic clearly demonstrated all the advantages of various segments of the activities of partners - tenants. It was during this period that many small companies left the market, while the big players remained.
“Based on our practice, the demand for household appliances and, of course, medicines and medical supplies has increased during the pandemic. With such a demand, if we had only one profile, there would simply be no storage space left. Another trend is the optimization of some companies. Thus, we can offer various options for increasing rental space, provide warehouses to those who need to expand,” emphasizes Tatyana Babicheva.
According to Tatyana, most often negotiations with potential clients are conducted at the level of general directors or logistics directors. At the same time, there is no bureaucracy in DAMU Logistics, we provide each partner with what is needed. The task of the business development department team is to maintain a reputation and ensure revenue growth.
. “Of course, there are certain standards according to which we cannot go down in terms of pricing. Firstly, it is important to take into account the requirements of the client, to provide the services necessary for this particular partner. Secondly, any increase in tariffs must be justified. For example, we meet with such a large tenant as Magnum once a month. With some we meet less frequently, depending on their needs. The third important point is to be flexible. During the pandemic and the January events, many tenants suffered serious losses, the management of DAMU Logistics understood this very well and always went and goes forward. Everyone has individual requirements and requests - someone asks to change the rental rate or requests a deferral of payments. We value each partner, consider all issues and make a mutually beneficial decision,” says a representative of the operator of the network of industrial and logistics parks.
This is an individual approach to each client, Tatyana Babicheva believes. And the main indicator of successful work today is that no one wants to terminate the contract with DAMU Logistics, which indicates comfortable conditions for cooperation with the company.
“The main thing is that tenants trust us and they know that we have been a reliable partner in the logistics market since 2004. We deeply appreciate each tenant, so this year we have set a course for renovation. Given that the park has been operating for 14 years, part of the communications is subject to a major replacement, or cosmetic repairs. 2022 is the year of transformation and transformation into DAMU Logistics. Again, all these improvements are for our valued partners, who we care about and cherish every project of our tenants,”: sums up the head of business development of DAMU Logistics
Three main principles that guide Tatyana Babicheva in her life and work:
